Send e-mail to and receive it from friends and coworkers
Nostalgic users of the classic Eudora will be glad to get their hands on the latest outing, Penelope. This updated version manages to mix in iconic Eudora features with many things from Mozilla's Thunderbird. You'll immediately recognize the Eudora icons and the typical Thunderbird interface. The mail client is easy to install and to set up your own account. You can create filters to manage incoming mail and use Mozilla's search as you type feature to skip through your emails.
Penelope also includes an RSS reader, once again based on the one from Thunderbird. It worked smoothly importing new feeds. The preview window lets you read feeds directly from Penelope instead of opening them up in your browser. Another neat feature of the mail client is that you can now install all Thunderbird add-ons to it. The address book has also been improved and you can easily import or export it to various formats.
Despite still being a bit unstable (Penelope is still in development after all), the Eudora mail client provides a good alternative to send and receive mail. Qualcomm Penelope developers seem to have succeeded in blending the strengths of both Eudora and Thunderbird into one.

So, So Disappointed.
The program is nothing like the tried and true Eudora. I will remain in the last paid mode for life or until the developers from Eudora abandon the TBird shell and go back to the original architecture of Eudora.
Pros:
None that I have discovered.
Cons:
Having many email addresses for a variety of ventures was easily and efficiently sorted into nested mailboxes. Now there is a draft and trash box for every personality. The architecture is a cumbersome. Eudora geeks, get a pair and . More

hulbe002.
It's not good!Like jsps999, I have been a longtime user of Eudora and was excited, or so I thought, to find this new version and that it would be supported. Also like other user, I am EXTREMELY disappointed in the program. Initially I did not want to use the Review and Rate to discuss the program, but it's been close to a week since I contacted Softonic by email to request assistance in trying to figure out the problems. However, since no one has responded and just now another important message was deleted, here goes:1. Reading through messages, it skips up and down the inbox page
2. trying to read a message and it will skip to the next message
3. open a message and cannot get back to the main Eudora page to see list of emails
4. Inbox automatically closes after a bit and have to reopen Eudora
5. emails will not delete, or extremely difficult to delete, it will jump to another email and then accidentally will delete another mail, not the one you are trying to delete
6. in attempting to delete emails [spam], they will replicate
7. opened Eudora and then minimized it
8. opened foxfire and Eudora came back up [re-minimized it]
9. when foxfire opened, another Eudora mailbox opened
10. opened trash file and system opened another file also
11. still jumping around and just deleted a message I hadn't read and now I can't find it in the trash
12. In attempting to delete 'spam/junk' message, the system jumps to the last message on list
13. In addition, when I manage to get it to stay put on the junk/spam mail, all it does is click and removes the bold, making it as if I've read the message
See the rest Below in 'Cons"
Pros:
None
Cons:
14. While waiting for messages to open after starting Eudora, I wrote a message. After sending the message, I expected the Eudora page to be open so I could start reading my messages. However, it had shut down while I was writing.

Not Quite There.....Yet.
I am a long time, many many years user of Eudora, and presently using the final Paid registered version of it.
Sadly I must say that I am dissatisfied with this Penelope version of 'Eudora'.
This Penelope version is somewhat similar to mail client T-Bird wearing a different suit of clothes, and not much more.
I will continue to use my latest registered Paid version of Eudora until any future changing mail client protocalls render it becoming obsolete.
When that time arrives my final outcome will then probably be to use the MicroCrap 'World Standard' OUTLOOK as my 'preferred', primary mail client. At present MS Outlook is my secondary mail client.Overall, this Penelope version is NOT Eudora. VERY disappointing.Suggestion:
Wait until the Eudora copyrights have expired, then produce an actual version of Eudora instead of this T-Bird remake of an Eudora wanna-be. Pros:
After the initial boot-up I was pleasantly surprised to see a visual resemblance to Eudora. But, that is all.
Shortly after I realized that this is a remake of T-Bird; if you like T-Bird, then use the actual T-Bird mail client, instead.
Cons:
There are too many disappointing elements to list within the characters totals limitations of this CONS box field.

Like Tbird But Better.
Old time Eudora user here. Went to Tbird when I bought a new box and could no longer get paid Eudora. Just installed Penelope today, and happy to see the old girl.
Pros:
Selected text becomes quoted text in reply. Missed this in Tbird. 'Paste Special' now called 'Paste without formatting' -- a small thing, seems simple, but I wish everyone did it.
Cons:
None really...no stability issues so far...looking good... More
